Composite Bonding

Reshape teeth with composite bonding and transform your smile. Fill gaps, change the colour and repair chips with our versatile and minimally invasive treatment.

What is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is the placement of white fillings over sound tooth tissue. Composite bonding can modify the shape of the teeth and can create the illusion of straighter teeth. Composite resin bonding can also fix chips, close gaps, and help with general wear and tear of teeth.

The Benefits of Composite Bonding

  • Can improve the look of your teeth

  • Can fix the shape or colour of your teeth

  • Non-invasive and quick cosmetic procedure

  • Can improve small gaps, mild unevenness, mild staining, pitting, mild wear and cracks

The Composite Bonding Process

1

Following assessment and examination the dental practitioner will create a bespoke composite bonding treatment plan and quote for you.

2

Fillings will be placed on the designated teeth using light cured composite, and then shaped.

3

The occlusion of your teeth will be checked and adjusted as required.

4

You may need further visits for polishing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Aesthetic treatment is a wish and not necessarily a need. However, if you have gaps in your teeth, cracks or are unhappy with the size, composite bonding may be suitable for you. It can also be a great conclusion to Invisalign or teeth whitening treatments.

Do I need composite bonding?

Composite bonding can be a good option if you have tooth sensitivity. Speak to our team today to find out if composite bonding is right for you.

Is composite bonding a good option for someone with sensitive teeth?

If looked after, composite bonding can last for many years. Bonding can wear down over time, and habits like diet and oral hygiene can affect how long it lasts. Our dentists will let you know how to best look to look after your bonded teeth.

How long does cosmetic tooth bonding last?

Composite bonding is not usually painful. It’s a minimally invasive dental procedure so anesthetic isn’t always needed. Some people may feel slight pressure or mild sensitivity when the bonding is applied to their teeth.

Is composite bonding painful?

We use a high quality composite material at our dental practice, but yes sometimes composite bonding can pick up dietary staining. This can be easily polished off and is part of the routine maintenance of restorations.

Will the bonding stain?

Yes it will wear, but if it has been placed because of existing wear to teeth, it’s preferable to have a restoration, which is rebuildable, than to lose more tooth structure.

Will the bonding wear?

You can care for composite bonding by cleaning your teeth effectively and by respecting the restorations. Opening bottles with your teeth can damage the bonding and your teeth, so it’s best to avoid this. Regular dental check ups also help care for composite bonding and extend their life span.

How do I care for composite bonding?

Strongly coloured foods such as coffee, curries and dark berries should be avoided immediately after bonding. You should also avoid eating hard foods like nuts, crusty bread and hard sweets. We also recommend that you avoid smoking.

What foods and drinks should be avoided immediately after composite bonding?

The time it takes to complete your composite bonding will depend on how many teeth are being bonded. This will be discussed with you prior to the bonding appointment.

How long does a typical composite bonding appointment take from start to finish?
